Projects

  • Parafield Stormwater Harvesting, Aquifer Storage and Reuse Project
The Parafield Stormwater Harvesting Facility is an outstanding and innovative example of best practice in urban stormwater management involving local government, industry and the community. It is a showcase development in converting stormwater from an urban nuisance and pollutant threat into a valuable resource for industry and the community. This innovative $7 million project was the first major Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) project in Australia and has won a number of prestigious awards such as the Engineering Excellence Award by the Institution of Engineers, Australia and the National Award for Innovation in Local Government.
  • Olympic Dam Expansion, Roxby Downs
Working for Western Mining Corporation (now BHP Billiton), Hemant delivered Australia’s first dedicated Life-cycle program on the $2.1 billion Olympic Dam Expansion Project at Roxby Downs. A key focus of this innovative program was to meet stringent water allocation restrictions imposed on this project by the regulatory bodies. The Life-cycle program was initiated by the Chief Executive. Hemant involved the entire mine operation – from ore extraction to processing and disposal in delivering the program. Nearly two hundred design engineers, site personnel, and construction people from 6 dedicated project teams worked for a year in implementing 70 projects delivering an annual saving of $30 million through water conservation.
  • Siemens-Windesal Alliance – Water Desalination using Wind Energy
The Siemens-Windesal Alliance was formed to design and develop decentralized wind-powered desalination projects that could be totally off the grid with the added capability to operate continuously at 60% more efficiency compared to a typical grid-connected wind turbine. As the Chief Technology Officer, Hemant was responsible for project planning, technical and commercial feasibility, approvals and engineering design.
