Russell Merz is a Principal of Golder Associates, a principal hydrotechnical engineer, and a business leader. Over the past 30 years, he has undertaken and contributed to multi-disciplinary projects in over 40 countries in five continents. His focus is on risk assessment, water resources resiliency and water stewardship.
Russell has a broad perspective and understanding of global business and multi-cultural diversity from project work in over 35 countries, and from living and working in five countries. Russell has held positions in government, industry and consulting. He was responsible for establishing the Golder operations in India, leading the Asian mining business, progressing mergers and acquisitions in Asia, and integration of GeoEng in Singapore. Past Board positions include Golder subsidiaries in Singapore, India, and New Caledonia.
Russell holds a degree in Bio-resource Engineering from UBC in Canada and a master’s degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering (Soil and Water) from North Carolina State University, USA. He is also a Fellow and Chartered Professional Engineer (Civil and Environmental) with Engineers Australia, a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
