Aither has been working with the Australian Water Partnership and DFAT to develop guidance on what it means to value water. Valuing water presents a pathway to sustainability and equitable allocation of water within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. The High-Level Panel on Water, a World Bank and UN initiative, identified valuing water as a key area within its action plan. The process of valuing water accounts for multiple uses of the available water, allowing for allocation decisions to be made to best serve all identified uses and benefits.
Furthermore, Aither has also developed a 6-step pathway for valuing water, which is based on the Australian experience which can serve as a tool for sharing experiences and encouraging governments to follow the pathway towards valuing water.
