AWP engagement at international water and climate events

Since the lifting of COVID restriction on travel across the majority of the world there has been a resurgence of international water and climate events. In recent months, AWP and its partners have engaged in several key events with an overarching focus on the linkages between water and climate and how Australia with Indo-Pacific partners can work towards solutions. You can learn more about the experience and reflections from two of these events in the articles below:

World Water Week – AWP were proud to have co-convened two sessions at World Water Week:  Thousands of Years of Lessons: Indigenous Voices; and Community Voices, based on an upcoming AWP publication by the Hon Karlene Maywald and Leith Boully.

IWA World Water Congress –  AWP with Water Sensitive Cities Australia launched the Urban WaterGuide and held a workshop on ‘How to operationalise integrated urban water management – a five-step guide’.

Recent and upcoming international events where AWP is engaging

Dialogue series on Sharing Water and Climate Stories – this series is running from August 2022 – February 2023 and aims to create momentum across the Australian water sector on water and climate action including on Indigenous Peoples’ traditional and community knowledge. Two dialogues have been held to date and further sessions will take place following COP27.

Cairo Water Week – Participating in Cairo Water Week has potential to influence the messaging for both COP27 and the UN 2023 Water Conference. As a core partner of the water pavilion, AWP’s presence will be significant. AWP is also co-convening three sessions with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and other partners.

UNFCCC COP27 – AWP will contribute to global learning on how community and traditional knowledge can be a part of water management planning for climate adaptation, drawing on practice from the Indo-Pacific region as well as Australia.

AWP Partners Workshop and Training – The annual AWP Partners workshop with a theme of Partnering for resilience through water and climate action will be held from 8-9 March in Adelaide with 7 March as a training day. We encourage Partners to register now as it is festival season in Adelaide and travel needs to be reserved.
