Ayeyarwady SOBA Synthesis Report available online

The digital version of the Ayeyarwady State of the Basin (SOBA) Synthesis Report (Volume 1) is now accessible online.

The SOBA Synthesis report is the result of the most comprehensive assessment ever completed on Myanmar’s Ayeyarwady River Basin. The draft report was launched at the Asia-Pacific Water Summit in Yangon, Myanmar in December 2017, and the latest version captures the outputs of AWP’s significant work in Myanmar.

Tarek Ketelsen, AWP Myanmar Coordinator, said the data involved in the SOBA assessment is truly remarkable.

“In numbers, SOBA covers 6 thematic areas, 17 technical reports, and has involved 25 Myanmar and international organisations, universities, NGOs, companies and institutes. Moreover, there were 33 independent technical reviewers, 54 communities consulted, 140 contributing technical specialists, and 1200 kilometres of river channel surveyed and sampled,” said Ketelsen.

The Technical Report (Volume 2) is also due to be released online later this year. This is a compilation of 17 final reports from the SOBA packages covering specific aspects of the Ayeyarwady Basin, from sediment and geomorphology to aquatic habitats to ecosystem services.
