Call for EOI: Water Week at the World Expo in Dubai

Submission Deadline: Tuesday 30 November 2021, 5.30pm (AEDT)

The Australian Water Partnership (AWP) is seeking Australian Partners to participate in the Water Week (20–26 March 2022) which will be held at the World Expo in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Activity Background

The World Expo, running from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, is a global mega-event with 192 participating countries, including Australia. It presents a platform for global achievement, innovation, collaboration and cooperation across sectors, organisations, and geographies to address global challenges in the post-COVID-19 world. The Australian Pavilion, led by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), will bring a piece of Australia to the Expo and play host to a targeted program of events that showcases the best of Australia. The Australian Pavilion will be involved in the Water Week.

AWP will be funding the following activities related to the Expo, and partners are requested to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) for one or both activities below.

Activity Descriptions

1. Appointment of a Dubai Expo Water Engagement and Coordination Manager
AWP is seeking to appoint an individual from one of its partner organisations to a temporary position to drive engagement, coordination, and the delivery of a strong Australian water presence across events at the Expo. The Dubai Expo Water Engagement and Coordination Manager will work across the Australian water sector to support organisations to engage in and leverage new international water engagement opportunities at Expo. A critical element of this role is to actively engage with interested parties across the sector to design and coordinate the delivery of the above mentioned four Australian sponsored events, along with other events and activities in different virtual and in-person formats. The position will be engaged by AWP and will be based in Dubai on a 0.4 FTE basis (negotiable) from 1 December 2021 to 28 March 2022, providing an on-the-ground and connected presence. A detailed position description highlighting the role responsibilities is outlined in Annex A.

2. Participation in Water Week at Expo
AWP is part of the organising committee for the International Conference on Water Resources Management and Sustainability: Solutions for Arid Regions, co-hosted by the South Australian Government and the UAE University. The event is an opportunity to showcase Australian contributions addressing global challenges in this area, and for Australian institutions to build international linkages and raise their profile on a global stage. It will have close links to the Australian presence at Water Week. AWP has an opportunity to put forward additional workshops organised by partners for inclusion in the program and is seeking proposals from Australian Partners. We welcome proposals for workshops related to any area of Australian expertise in water scarcity. Where partners are also able to support AWP’s other events during Water Week, AWP will consider supporting travel for a small number of the selected partners to participate.

Please note there is an open Call for Abstracts for the conference (not managed by AWP). We encourage partners to submit abstracts directly via the conference website (due 1 December 2021).
