On 1 July 2010, Queensland Urban Utilities was established as a statutory body under the South East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail Restructuring) Act 2009, and a service provider under the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008. We are jointly owned by the councils of Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Somerset, and are governed by an independent board. As one of Australia?s largest water utilities, we are responsible for delivering drinking water, recycled water and sewerage services to over 1.4 million customers across our vast service territory, which spans some 14,382 square kilometres. All that we do is underscored by our purpose, to “Enrich quality of life”, and our vision, “To be recognised for our excellence in water and sewerage services that meet the evolving needs of our customers and enhance our communities.” In the five and a half years since our formation, we have moved closer towards achieving our purpose and vision by delivering over $1 billion of infrastructure to ensure our customers are serviced by a reliable and sustainable water and sewerage network well into the future. We have embraced innovation and are collaborating with the private sector, research partners and commercial customers to optimise treatment processes to prove improve service delivery, realise efficiencies, and inform future capital investment. We are fast becoming recognised as an industry leader in research and development, and were proud to be ranked in the top 10 most innovative companies in Australia as part of the 2015 BRW Most Innovative Companies List.
