Damien Peter Finlayson

GCA is a sole operator business focussed on hydrogeology. Damien Finlayson has worked in both the public and private sectors. He has 32 years consulting experience working widely throughout Australia having been based in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and regional Victoria and briefly in the UK. He currently lives and works in Tatura, Victoria. He holds a Masters Degree in Hydrogeology and Groundwater Management from the University of New South Wales.
He has a wide range of experience in groundwater and catchment management projects. Areas of hydrogeological experience include; clean and dirty water resource investigation, assessment and management, hands-on field investigations across many different hydrogeological conditions in Australia, computer simulation of groundwater flow and contaminant transport, salinity management, policy and guideline preparation to assist both local and state government resource managers (salinity, groundwater data), risk asessment, general project management and expert witness.

Projects

  • SIR Salt & Water Blance Project
A project considering the water balance and salt storage and mobilization mechanisms in the Shepparton Irrigation Region of northern Victoria. The aim of the project being to develop policy and procedures for the adaptive management of salinity in the SIR under any future land use and climate scenario. For: Goulburn-Murray Water/Department of Sustainability & Environment.
  • Grampians Groundwater Resource Appraisal
A project with the specialist approach of applying the Monte Carlo technique to groundwater resource assessments across the Wimmera in eastern Victoria. The technique was used to assess the key elements of the typical groundwater balance and the potential impacts on the groundwater volumes and levels in each area as a result of climate change to the year 2070. For: Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water.
  • Mid & Upper Loddon Resource Appraisals
These two projects involved assessing the Deep Lead aquifer groundwater respunse in the mid and upper groundwater catchment of the Loddon River to assist in the management of groundwater resource allocation in those regions. For Goulburn Murray Water and the State Government of Victoria
  • Kerang Lakes Bypass Salinity Assessment
A project again applying the Monte Carlo technique to assess potential salinity impacts to lake water quality by altering filling regimes in 5 of the RAMSAR listed Kerang lakes under a range of potential filling scenarios by to irrigation moderisation activities in northern Victoria. For: GMW Connections Project
