Projects

  • 1 State Priority Projects: Quality Assurance of draft due diligence
    We were engaged by the Water Efficiency Division of the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities to undertake a review of its draft due diligence assessment reports on State Priority Projects under the Water for the Future Program. The reviews were focused on the value for money criterion and the positive cost-benefit outcome aspect of it. The seven reports reviewed included: Basin Pipes (NSW), Healthy Floodplains (NSW), Irrigated Farm Modernisation (NSW), Metering Project (NSW), Sunraysia Modernisation (Victoria), Coorong, Lower Lakes & Murray Mouth Recovery (SA) and Riverine Recovery (SA).
  • 2 Collation of Murray-Darling Basin
    The MDBA engaged GHD to undertake a stocktake of quantitative economic data relating to the volume and area of irrigated agricultural production by crop type. GHD then described the minimum scale at which the data is available (such as irrigation district, local government area or catchment scale) within the Murray-Darling Basin, and the years for which the data is available. We described the capacity for combining data from multiple sources and for using a particular source of data for verifying the area and volume of production by crop type, and the proportion of irrigated agriculture production in the Basin that is covered by the data. A Gap analysis identified which areas of the data need to be addressed and the possible options for doing so.
  • 3 Macalister Irrigation District nutrient reduction program, West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority
    A nutrient reduction plan was prepared to reduce the annual load of phosphorus discharged from Macalister Irrigation District drains by at least 40%. GHD was commissioned to review the plan and recommend future actions, improvements and targeted investment by the Gippsland Lakes and Catchment Taskforce under the Gippsland Lakes future directions action plan including: Community engagement arrangements and their effectiveness, Effectiveness of existing nutrient reduction measures and future alternatives, Future renewal of the plan and cost-effective investment recommendations, Institutional and plan implementation arrangements roles and effectiveness of inter-agency co-operation, Links to other nutrient reduction plans and activities (e.g. salinity, water efficiency), Monitoring and modelling of nutrient transport, Targets achieved in P export reduction and proposed works completed.
  • 4 Murrumbidgee Alliance Hanwood modernisation project, Murrumbidgee Irrigation Limited
    The Hanwood irrigation area is comprised of gravity fed channels that are nearly 80 years old and in poor condition. GHD was tasked with developing system modernisation options that achieve the objectives of water savings, improved system efficiency and adaptability for the future. This also included developing a series of potential options, undertaking a preliminary design of the preferred scheme, environmental approvals and stakeholder engagement activities. GHD delivered option development, design, environmental approvals and stakeholder engagement for stages one and two of the Hanwood modernization project. This included the initial planning, concept planning and detailed design for the chosen modernisation strategy
  • 5 Ord irrigation expansion project, Weaber Plain Farmlands
    GHD worked closely with Landcorp, stakeholders, other consultants and the ECI contractor to provide detailed design and construction support of this challenging project. The final scope comprised 4,000,000m3 of cut to fill in clay, 40km of irrigation channel to 32m3/s, 40km of roads to 110kph, eight major flow control structures, nine major drainage culverts, 80km of drains, 35km of flood protection levee and the concept design of 17 farms (8000Ha) complete with tail water recycling systems. In addition, GHD completed hydrological analysis of internal and external stormwater catchments using MIKE 11 and MIKE 21 computer models and assisted environmental approvals by completing a mixing and dilution study of runoff water in the receiving environment.
  • 6. Innovation, R&D & technology advisory
    GHD has a specialist innovation team that supports infrastructure organisations grow through identification and delivery of new ideas, technology and business models. Examples include: Assisted DC Water (Washington) establish an innovation program, Review SEQ’s R&D program, Assist Australian Water Recycling Centre of Excellence commercialise their intellectual property and provide mentoring & partnering services to over 30 SMEs in the water industry.
