The vision of the IWC is to foster water leadership for the future. IWC is a partnership of Griffith University and University of Queensland established to share Australian water management knowledge and experiences with international organisations and individuals. Collaboration is our foundation; we bring together academic expertise with practitioners of water management from across Australia, to improve integrated water management. We emphasise “integration” aspects, in particular the governance and decision-making processes of government ministries, government-owned-entities (especially water utilities), private sector actors, local NGOs and communities. We support capacity building for good governance with capacity building focussed on best technological and social approaches to managing water problems. We have worked with more than 160 organisations giving us enormous breadth and depth of knowledge of water management issues, arrangements and options globally. Our capacity building style is highly interactive, to ensure we build locally appropriate capacity. We have significant experience in developing countries including through multi-year capacity building partnerships across the Pacific with Water Aid and with Live and Learn Environmental. We have worked to build the capacity of Governments and Government-owned-entities across SE Asia and the Pacific including those of Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and the Pacific Nations. Finally, we deliver capacity building directly to the urban water staff of the ADB and to UNICEF’s school WASH work.
IWC focuses on 5 key themes of IWM:
– Integrated Water Management Governance & Reform
– Healthy Catchments
– Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
– Sustainable Urban Water
