MINCARB PTY LTD

We manufacture low energy electrochemical desalination technology for novel applications. A core philosophy is to take on challenges involving problems of local and global significance. Typically these problems may not have economically feasible solutions using existing technology due to energy or cost constraints. By taking a rigorous and robust approach to our product development we have established key alliances combining the technical knowhow of UNSW (Water Research Centre and Energy Systems Group) with Mincarb’s commercial focus on delivering low energy desalination products to strategically chosen markets. We are also in partnership with Jaycar Electronics who provide administrative, logistical and marketing support.

Projects

  • ARC Linkage LP150100854Optimising CDI Water Treatment for IonRemoval and Energy Recovery,Tata ProjectDevelopment of Robust, Low Cost Capacitive Deionisation (CDI)Technology for Removal ofContaminants from Groundwater
The goals of this project are i) to identify applications where capacitive deionisation (CDI) would, if operated optimally, cost effectively render brackish, contaminated water usable/re-usable, ii) to optimise CDI design and operating conditions such that particular ions of concern are effectively and sustainably removed given particular feed water compositions, iii) to develop approaches to energy recovery for particular design and operating conditions such that application of CDI is cost effective and sustainable, and iv) to develop a photovoltaic-powered CDI unit that is capable of stand-alone operation with optimal energy recovery and inbuilt monitoring and control technology enabling sustainable operation.,This project is funded by Tata Trusts and Tata Projects Limited. The aim of this project is to develop a robust, low cost water treatment device, based on the principle of capacitive deionisation for removal of contaminants (including salt, fluoride, arsenic and nitrate) from groundwaters, that is particularly suited to operation under conditions typical of the remote Indian village environment. The demonstration plant has had over 12 months of successful operation.
